County Board Updates

May's County Board videos are up here. More on the delay at a previous updated Cheat Sheet post here. May's County Board meeting hit on the argument over appointments again. From the News-Gazette:
In what amounted to a symbolic revolt, the board voted 13-6 to reject the reappointment of Paul Sailor to the Board of Review on Thursday night.

Twelve of the 13 "no" votes came from board members from Kloeppel's own party; all of the supporters were Republicans.

Democrat Chris Stohr said he believes the Democrats were showing support for Young and his involvement in appointments.
More at the full article here. This is rehashing a disagreement on appointments from the Committee of the Whole the previous week. Cheat Sheet post here. Once again the Democrats are pushing for more input into the appointment process while Republicans are defending the County Executive having sole discretion on that process with the County Board simply voting that appointment up or down.

One appointment candidate spoke directly to the board ahead of her vote. Jennifer Putman, who was seeking re-appointment to the Champaign-Urbana Sanitary District Board spoke to the board during public participation and explained her hope to reduce the pay for the board which is currently at the maximum and highlighted a new State statute that may add two additional seats that could be filled with people who support the pay reduction.

There were a lot of presentations at the previous Committee of the Whole as well as new presentations at this County Board meeting of the County Executive's Report (presentation slides here) and the County Clerk's 2019 Tax Cycle presentation. Here are video links to those presentations along with an excerpt of a previous Cheat Sheet post with additional information:
Here are links to the presentation materials for now: the Champaign County Economic Development Corporation presentation, the Circuit Clerk's presentation for the Criminal and Traffic Assessment Act, and the Champaign County Reentry Council's Third Quarter Report (page 27 of Agenda Packet, page 30 of PDF file).

The County Clerk presentation hoped to address concerns about the delay in tax notifications this year and included slides in the video link above.  He also described the process the County Clerk's office goes through, including new systems, in detail. Questions and Answers afterward are here. On the up side, WCIA was reporting that your property taxes are likely to decrease a bit this year. More on that here.
