Appointments Information

Did you know that you, as a Champaign County community member, can apply for term-limited positions through the Champaign County Board? The County Board accepts applications for positions on “appointed bodies,” which consist of various commissions, advisory boards, and task forces. (For appointments to the Sixth Judicial Circuit see the Circuit Judge Appointment Primer.)

If you are interested in learning more and applying for a vacancy, start on the Board Appointments page: http://www.co.champaign.il.us/CountyExecutive/Appointments.php

The County Executive also has appointment news on the Executive's News page: http://www.co.champaign.il.us/CountyExecutive/countyexecnewsreleases.php

This page lists the different appointed bodies overseen by the Board. To find a current opening, start by clicking on the “Vacant Appointments” tab. This leads to a pdf that lists soon-to-expire terms (as of January 2018, mainly Fire Protection Districts) and unfilled positions with their expiration date listed (currently cemetery boards, drainage districts, Senior Services Advisory Board).

Do you see a position that sounds interesting to you, and want to know if you qualify? Then scroll down the Appointments page to “Appointed Bodies.” Here is a listing of the various tasks forces, commissions, and boards that the Champaign County Board oversees appointments for. When you click on a listing, a drop-down appears that explains the
  • group composition and term length,
  • qualifications to join,
  • additional relevant information (“special provisions”)
  • list of current membership and
  • the application pdf form
  • Some bodies have regulatory provisions and even their own bylaws, and links to these are also provided in this space.
When can you apply? Applications are accepted up until the third Friday of the month “prior to the Committee of the Whole meeting of the month in which the appointment is to take place,” according to the Appointments page.

So if, for example, you wanted to apply for one of the Fire Protection Districts currently listed, the application would need to be received by the third Friday in March in time for the Committee of the Whole meeting in April, with the position to begin May 1.
