If you're a Republican interested in a County Board appointment, there's a brief window to apply and be interviewed by party officials. From their facebook notice:

NOTICE: Special Meeting of Precinct Committeemen in County Board District Two (2) to Appoint a County Board Member

Date and Time of Meeting: Monday, January 8, 2018 6 PM

Location: Rantoul Township Office
121 N Garrard, Rantoul, IL

Any Republican who lives in County Board District Two who wishes to be considered as a candidate for appointment to fill the unexpired term of the vacancy on County Board must complete an application and return it by email to the chairman of the Champaign County Republican party at chairman@champaigncountygop.com no later than 5pm on Saturday, January 6, 2018.
