Courthouse Parking Rates Could Go Up

A vote on parking fees was rescheduled after a tie vote. From last Wednesday's News-Gazette:

County officials aren't sure whether or not to increase the cost to park in the lot next to the Champaign County Courthouse.

But motorists will soon have new options for how they pay for parking there.

On Tuesday night, the Champaign County Board Facilities committee found itself deadlocked 2-2 on a proposal to increase parking rates at the courthouse.

Because three of the seven committee members were not present, the committee decided to schedule another vote for its Nov. 5 meeting.

Motorists using that parking lot currently pay 25 cents for the first hour and 50 cents for every hour after that.

The committee was split over raising the parking rate to an even $1 per hour.
