Bambenek Erroneously Sues for Probe

[UPDATE: The N-G has updated the article to point out that Bambenek's lawsuit was factually incorrect. Tinsley had no felony conviction. He paid a fine from a misdemeanor plea deal from 2010 today and appears to be square with the County now. From what I gathered from other Democratic Party board members, the distortion may have been intentional and an attempt to get a vacancy on the board rather. Which, to anyone familiar with Bambenek will probably surprise exactly nobody. Updated the title with all apologies to Mr. Tinsley for highlighting the erroneous information. John Bambenek, familiar to online political communities locally, is asking for an special prosecutor to investigate County Board member James Tinsley's legitimacy as a board member along with his previous determinative votes. From today's News-Gazette:
Lawsuit calls for probe into county board member's drug conviction
Champaign County Board member James Tinsley should be investigated and possibly removed from office for failing to pay more than $1,100 in fees and fines stemming from a drug conviction in 2010, according to a lawsuit filed in Champaign County Circuit Court.

The suit was filed pro se by John Bambenek, a former Champaign school board member and one-time Republican candidate for state senator who now serves on the Illinois Community College Board and is a lecturer at the University of Illinois...

Bambenek also sent a notice to all county board members Thursday, warning them that any action Tinsley is a part of "is legally suspect."

"This means, for instance, any 11-11 votes of the county board could be legally challenged and overturned in court. In order to limit the amount of potential legal challenges this situation creates, I recommend you take appropriate steps," he wrote.
