Programs that primarily or partially work to provide services and resources to the community before contact with the criminal justice system. This section is not necessarily programs for crime prevention as much as community building and support structures. This as opposed to programs in the following sections that highlight programs associated with different phases of contact with the criminal justice system: Contact, Incarceration, and Re-Entry.

Local Programs:
  • Champaign Community Coalition: The Champaign County Community Coalition (CCCC) is a System of Care Network that includes: local government; law enforcement; juvenile justice; behavioral health; education; child welfare; and community based service providers. This network is designed to identify critical community issues that impact the lives of youth and their families. Effective Systems of Care are family-driven, youth-guided, strength-based, culturally competent, and trauma informed in its philosophy and operation.
  • Family Service of Champaign County: a private, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization. Founded in 1911, we are the oldest private social service agency in Champaign County and have provided continuous service to families and individuals for more than 100 years. Our mission is supporting people across the generations by providing quality human services.
  • Human Relations Commission - Champaign:The Human Relations Commission is responsible for the promotion of equal rights and opportunities in the City.  It is responsible for the enforcement of the City’s Human Rights Ordinance and serves as the hearing board for complaints of violation of the Ordinance that cannot be conciliated by staff.  The Commission also advises the City Council on human rights and equal opportunity issues.
  • Human Services Council: The Human Services Council of Champaign County, Illinois, is an association of over 60 public and not-for-profit organizations that seek to develop and improve human services through development of various community projects, exchange of information between organizations, community education concerning needs and programs and encouragement of cooperation between organizations.

State Based Programs:

Federal / National Based Programs:
  • NAMI Champaign: We Have a Simple Mission: To provide education, support, and advocacy, to all persons living in our community who are affected by mental illness.

    NAMI Champaign is the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest grass-roots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.  NAMI is an all volunteer non-profit organization and has over 1,100 affiliates in communities across the country who engage in advocacy, research, support, and education.
